Inclusive Learning
Garhbeta College takes the responsibility of providing an inclusive learning environment extremely seriously. We are committed to do whatever it takes to make the college campus a barrier-free, discrimination-free and impartial place. We want our students to imbibe the values of diversity, equity, inclusion and empathy.
As emphasized in the UNESCO charter guided by the UNESCO Convention against Discrimination in Education (1960), we strongly believe that Every Learner Matters Equally, irrespective of gender, sexual orientation, ethnic or social origin, language, religion, nationality, economic condition or ability. The Sustainable Development Goal – 4 of the UNDP as well as Education 2030 Framework for Action emphasizes this clearly.
The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 clearly states that the goal of equity and inclusion in higher education must be upheld with utmost resilience by all the higher education institutions. In adherence to this idea that “making quality higher education opportunities available to all individuals must be among the highest priorities,” Garhbeta College leaves no stone unturned to create and maintain a campus environment embedded with the values of equity and inclusion for all.
There are several challenges for a higher education institution as identified in the NEP 2020, such as “lack of knowledge of higher education opportunities, economic opportunity cost of pursuing higher education, financial constraints, admission processes, geographical and language barriers, poor employability potential of many higher education programmes, and lack of appropriate student support mechanisms.”
Garhbeta College takes all possible actions to meet these challenges. We emphasize on learning through vernacular language as far as practicable, to help the first-generation learners coming from the rural surrounding of the college get better access to education.
The college provides hand holding support to the students to receive various scholarships and free-ships to combat the economic opportunity cost of pursuing higher education and breaking any financial barrier.
The admission process is central, neutral and equal for all, with constant support from the college, in every step of the process.
Two boys’ hostels and One girl’s hostel help mitigate the geographical barrier, while our sincere effort to make the campus truly inclusive through many trilingual brochures, notices, signboards and banner attempts to bridge the language gap.
The Career counseling Cell and the Eco-Friendly Innovation and Self-Employment Incubation (EFISEI) Hub of our college sincerely work for preparing our students for the professional world, through matching the employable students with the potential employers as well as raising employability of our students.
All the student support mechanisms incorporated into our organogram that reflects decentralization, works seamlessly to ensure that Every Learner Matters Equally, as stated by the UNESCO.
