History of the Department
Garhbeta College had been established long past, in the year 1948, with a mission of providing higher education to the younger generation belonging to the district of Paschim Medinipur and the adjoining district of Bankura and Hoogly district. Walking through a long way in achieving its mission the college has spread over its outgrowth in many traditional courses. So alongside the traditional courses, Bachelor of Computer Application (BCA) course has been introduced in the year 2017 with a dream of flourishing the college in multidimensional field. Thus with the mission of providing technical education on computer application to the local aspirants, the department is determined in reaching its goal towards making them compatible with the emerging need of Information technology throughout the country.
Bachelor of Computer Application (BCA) is an undergraduate professional degree course affiliated to Vidyasagar University and run under the directive of the University. In the present era of computerization and digitalization there has been ample scope for the computer professionals which is increasing day by day with the growth of IT (Information Technology) industry in India. BCA is one of the popular courses among the students who want to build up their career in the IT field. This course has immense prospects and provides a lot of opportunities to the students who are interested in computer field and desirous of working in the IT sector.
Keeping in view the above mentioned opportunities, Garhbeta College has introduced BCA Course in the year 2017 for making the local youth suitable for IT industry or different IT related job and within a very short span of time this department has gained confidence and credibility among the students.
About the Department
With enormous support from Prof. (Dr.) Hariprasad Sarkar, hon’ble Principal of the College the department is able to develop its infrastructural and academic facilities for the interest of the students. Prof. (Dr.) Santimoy Patra, Associate professor in Commerce is in-charge of the Department who always tries his best to uplift the department with the best possible amenities. Ms. Nandini Karmakar, Mr. Dipaanjan Sarkhel & Mr. Dipankar Jana are the three dedicated faculties of the department whose utmost care reaches even the individual need of the student. The department also gains academic cooperation from other departments like Mathematics, Physics and English department of the College. Apart from faculties of own college, the department arranges faculties from Narazole Raj College, Raja NL Khan Women’s College and Kharagpur College from time to time to fulfil the academic requirement of the students. For the Computer Application Course, as the technology changes rapidly every unit of time, the department and its faculties are careful to feed the students with updated knowledge to cope with the demand of time. The level of education imparted to the students makes them capable in reaching the height of their career in this highly demanding field.
With the support from the College authority, a number of system supports with adequate number of computers and other logical equipments have been gradually upgraded to cater the hunger of the newly admitted young minds. The department wants the education imparted to the students, to be the base of his/her career. To ignite that need the Computer Laboratory associated with the department has now 30 upgraded computers with 24x7 internet facility. A perfect cope for the library facility gets ready with referral books and Journals in the Central library of our College. So far the result of University examination is concerned, the performance of the our students are praiseworthy.
With the present crisis of Covid 19 pandemic when the class rooms doors have been closed for last couple of months, the department has been continuing online classes through virtual platform. The department also organized a Two-Day International Webinar on “Emerging Need of Digital Education in the Context of Covid 19 Pandemic’ on October 2nd & 3rd, 2020 which was very much pertinent to intricate the ideas of digital education and its values for the future generations.
It is a great honour for the BCA Department that, this year, some students of the final year got placed in renowned IT Companies like WIPRO and INFOSYS in their Campus Recruitment Programme. So from the view point of employability, the ultimate destiny of a course, this department has proved its worth within a very short span of time and hope it will uphold the prestige, fame and glory to enrich the credential of the department in particular and the college as a whole.
