Brief description of the Department
The journey of Geography department in Garhbeta College started with honours and general courses in 2001. At present there are 120 honours students in total in the department. The intake capacity in honours course of the department is 77 in first semester (CBCS). The department has two laboratory rooms for practical class. These two laboratories contain sufficient number of instruments, computers and accessories. To take classes using ICT the department has its own LCD projector along with other required accessories. Recently all the faculty members of this department have been provided with dedicated account so that they can take online classes through virtual platform using G-suite. Currently we offer honours course, general course. Students of science stream having honours in other subject can also take Geography as generic elective. Department also encourages students to have taste of on field experience by facilitating beyond classroom study.
Mission and Vision of the Department
Geography is a very new subject of social science which is included by different branches. The different branches of this subject is interrelated with others different subject of science and social science. That is why Geography is known as a “Dynamic Science”. The main purpose of the subject is to analyze the nature of relationship between Man and Environment over the earth surface. The department always tries to provide all types of facilities to students for their academic progress and career development. The department always tries to make students interest in the modern field of applied Geography and research related activities.
